We are currently seeking a full-time permanent PHARMACIST to join our team!

Location – 2400 Skymark Avenue, Mississauga ON

Schedule – Sunday to Friday, various rotating 8-hour shifts between the hours 6am-11pm with some flexibility required. Saturday shifts may also be included to accommodate higher production, especially around statutory holidays.

DESCRIPTION:

Making optimal use of professional knowledge and experience in managing and directing the pharmacy resources, the Pharmacist is responsible to maintain the standards required by Fresenius Kabi Canada Hospital Compounding and the profession of pharmacy.

The primary responsibility will be to ensure a quality-assured release of IV medication, while also supervising the daily activities involved in preparing the medication The pharmacist is responsible for controlling the processes to ensure that all products produced by Hospital Compounding meet both regulatory and corporate standards of accuracy and quality. The incumbent will release the batches produced, ensuring that all documentation related to the batch meet with provincial and federal regulations governing the practice of pharmacy. The Pharmacist also supervises registered technicians and pharmacy assistants as required in order to coordinate production activities. The Pharmacist must be able to work under stress with short lead times and changing customer demands to accommodate short turn-around times. There is the need for absolute zero-defect work in a high-pressure environment.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs all quality checks for batch production including pre-production checks and final release.
  • Ensures accurate completion of batch records/documentation.
  • Supervises all activities related to storing, producing, and delivering of product to ensure that the pharmacy complies with provincial and federal regulations governing the practice of pharmacy.
  • Directs and prioritizes the production process utilizing professional knowledge to recognize critical customer needs.
  • Utilizes the pharmaceutical literature and Global and Local Standard Operating Procedures as the basis for judgment of pharmacy issues relating to the compounding of admixtures.
  • Establishes, validates, and maintains quality assurance procedures, and records.
  • Observes and assesses the equipment, materials and procedures used in the facility and recommend changes where appropriate.
  • Responds to information requests from customers, other health disciplines and Fresenius Kabi personnel related to drug information and pharmacy practice.
  • Participates in departmental clinical and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensures all in-process verifications are met to drive compliance and high-quality
  • standards.
  • Participates in inventory counts, process validations and process improvements.
  • Assists in the development and review of master batch records and SOPs
  • Adheres to Good Documentation Practices and ensures completion of all required documentation as required by SOPs.
  • Assesses deviations for impact on compounded product.
  • Performs AQPIC role for controlled drug substances, ensures compliance with all regulations for controlled substances and ensures accurate inventory/count.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum university undergraduate degree in Pharmacy
  • Licensed in the province of Ontario with work experience in pharmacy, hospital or pharmaceutical industry. Experience in a sterile compounding environment is preferred
  • Ability to handle multiple demands made simultaneously under short time constraints.
  • Good interpersonal skills and leadership qualities
  • Must have the ability to work all shifts (i.e. morning and evening shifts, weekends and statutory holidays).
  • In-depth understanding of aseptic technique using laminar flow hoods
  • Microbiology: GMP and USP 797, NAPRA standards for non-hazardous sterile compounding knowledge is an asset
  • Strong verbal and communication skills
